The Great Indian Film and Literature Festival (GIFLIF), Asia’s first film and literature festival, embarked on its journey in December 2015. Initially named the “Gurugram International Film and Literature Festival,” it was held in Gurugram. The festival soon adopted its current name to “Great Indian Film & Literature Festival” as it transformed into a traveling festival, aiming to reach talent-rich regions across India.
The festival’s expansion began with the launch of the GIFLIF Bhopal Chapter in 2016 September, attracting approximately 10,000 attendees of all ages. The subsequent editions of the festival marked the inclusion of diverse elements such as plays, music concerts, and poetry recitals. A significant highlight was the launch of BALLIMAARAAN by Mr. Piyush Mishra at GIFLIF Gurugram 2016.
In 2017, The Bhopal Chapter of GIFLIF was a grand celebration, unprecedented in the capital. It featured the first visit of the eminent author Mr. Ruskin Bond to Bhopal and the debut performance of Ballimaaraan in Madhya Pradesh. This edition was a massive success, drawing over 15,000 people, and led to an invitation from the neighbouring state of Chhattisgarh.
In 2018, The first edition in Raipur, held in January, mirrored the success of the previous events with over 15,000 attendees. This year marked the festival’s continued growth and impact.
In 2019, GIFLIF returned to Bhopal for its 8th edition at Bharat Bhawan. The event featured a diverse lineup including plays like “Gagan Damama Bajyo” by Piyush Mishra, film screenings such as “Rockumentary” and “Kaifinama,” and musical concerts by Parvaaz and Kabir Cafe. The festival also included Dastaangoi, discussions with notable personalities, and various music, poetry, and storytelling sessions.
2020: COVID YEAR – eventually leading way for GIFLIF to full fledged enter the INDIE Music Space with an array of Music Festivals in the coming years.
2021: GIFLIF Drive-in Music Festival – INDIA’s 1st DriveIn Music Festival, WINNER WOW ASIA AWARD – BEST COVID SAFETY EVENT.
2022: GIFLIF Comedy & Music Festival, GIFLIF became the first event in INDIA to launch NFT event tickets.
2023 – GIFLIF launches INDIESTAAN – an INDIE Music Ecosystem & Conducted GIFLIF INDIESTAAN Music Festival that marked a significant milestone in 2023, bringing an extraordinary lineup of artists to Bhopal for the first time. The lineup included the legendary Lucky Ali, Thaikkudam Bridge, Anand Bhaskar Collective, Bombay Bandook, Kavish Seth Collective and The Western Ghats.
The GIFLIF Indiestaan Music Festival is set to come to Gurugram in 2024 and also has plans for the next edition in Bhopal around February-March 2024.
